About

The Hytta duplex was inspired by a Norway trip where mountains and ocean meet as they do in Acadia. Escape the traffic and crowds. The house with an in-law apt allows guests to connect yet have their own retreats . A large yard has plenty of space for your dog(s). This gateway to Downeast Maine is minutes from the rugged cliffs and mountains of Acadia's Schoodic Peninsula. Take the ferry to Bar Harbor (10 mins from the house), then take the free Island Explorer bus to Acadia's popular spots.

Good to know

TThe Hytta Duplex includes both the House and Loft apartment with a total of 3 full bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms with a large, private yard and firepit area. This property was inspired by a trip to the Lofoten Islands in Norway where peace, simplicity, and tranquility are at the forefront. If you are traveling with a smaller group, please search AirBNB for the Hytta House or Hytta Loft Apartment to rent one only of the units at a discount price. The Hytta House is a 2 bedroom 2 bath home. A bedroom (queen bed) and one full bathroom is on the first floor which makes it ideal for folks who struggle with stairs. The second floor has a master bedroom with a king bed and connected full bath. A desk can be moved from the master bedroom to the loft area above living room for a work space overlooking the ocean. Or move the desk to the master bedroom to make room to open up the queen-sized sofa bed. The Hytta Loft Apartment is connected to the house by a mudroom. This 1 bedroom 1 bath fully stocked space is above the utility room/garage area with its own mini but full kitchen. There is additional sleeping space in the Hytta Loft with a pull out sofa bed. The cathedral ceilings and ocean views from the porch are stunning! Note that the steps leading to the Hytta Loft are a bit narrow and steep and not appropriate for pets or people with mobility issues. A large porch overlooking the ocean (Frenschman's Bay) is accessed through the Hytta Loft Apartment. The property is dog friendly with a large private yard and two crates available. We do not charge pet fees (but will add on a cleaning fee at the end of your stay for any pet messes/excess hair left behind). These separate but connected units are ideal for large groups that want to be together but also have their own space at the end of the day. It is not appropriate for parties, and if everyone is gathered in the main house it will definitely feel cozy. There are three refrigerators and two sets of washer and dryers. Maine weather can be unpredictable and the entire home is protected by a back-up standby generator which will kick on and off automatically as needed if there is a power outage.

This was an excellent place to stay! It was exactly as advertised, clean, easy to find, and very warm and welcoming. Our party of 5 was able to spread out between the house and apartment which was great. The house is located on a private street which we were able to walk in the evenings. The view from the front windows is gorgeous, especially in the fall. Very happy with our overall experience at this duplex and highly recommend it!

We enjoyed our stay very much! This house was squicky clean and spacious. It's very functional and had all the supplies we needed and more. Amy was proactive in communications. The instructions that she provided was very clear. We hardly had any questions during our stay. The location was very peaceful. The entire family, including our dog, had a great time!

This home is in a peaceful setting near a lake. Deer roam the area @ dawn & dusk. Great sunsets! The serene, spacious home is tastefully decorated & stocked with linens & essentials. We loved the AC since it was hot. Amy was very responsive to our questions & shared recommendations about places to go/things to do. So glad we stayed here instead of Bar Harbor. The merchants, lobster shacks, ice cream shops & general stores let us focus on the local flavors of Gouldsboro & its nearby towns. Acadia/Bar Harbor is a 30-40-minute drive. Other recommendations? Book a Robertson's sea cruise to see lighthouses & seals; have yummy breakfast @ The Paisley Loon (try the sugar waffles); go antiquing and thrifting; take pix @ Wild Blueberry Land & World's Largest Lobster Trap; eat/drink @ Casa Jalisco; go to Ellsworth for delicious cinnamon buns @ Sweet Spot; and enjoy Me & Ben's Dairy Creme (their blueberry ice cream has real fruit!). Hytta gets 2 thumbs up from us - 4 paws up from our dog.

Perfect for our group as we were traveling through. Loved that it was two separate spaces but together. Well equipped kitchen to make dinner so we didn’t have to go out after a long travel day.

We rented both spaces, which was great for our family. The kitchens were well stocked. Amy was incredibly responsive throughout our stay. We enjoyed beautiful sunsets from the living room and enclosed porch. The location is great, it's peaceful and secluded but still close to Schoodic Pensisula. We highly recommend this location for anyone who is looking for a peaceful retreat.
